Concept

Surya Yantraसूर्ययन्त्र

A yantra associated with the sun, used in the graha traditions. Its documented context is astrological and ritual rather than philosophical.

Literal meaning

Yantras associated with the nine grahas, of which Surya is one, appear widely in ritual manuals and in the astrological literature. They are typically simple numerical or geometric arrangements rather than the elaborate constructions of the Sri Vidya material.

Traditional meaning

Traditional interpretation
Their documented use belongs to remedial and propitiatory ritual rather than to the contemplative frameworks of the non-dual traditions. Conflating the two produces claims neither literature makes. This distinction is worth keeping because the same word, yantra, covers both.
